FACTSHEET
ROUGH US6 YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS COLOSSAL YOUTH
The Young Marble Giants are Stuart Moxham on guitar and organ, Alison Statton on vocals and Philip Moxham on bass. They came to the attention of Rough Trade through an independently produced Cardiff compilation album, called Is The War Over?, on which they had two tracks, ODE TO BOOKER T and SEARCHING FOR MR. RIGHT. Impressed by these two tracks and a cassette of additional material the group brought in, Rough Trade asked them to do an album. The band went into Foel Studios in mid-Wales where they spent six days recording and mixing their album, producing it themselves with the assistance of studio owner-engineer, Dave Anderson. All fifteen tracks were written by the band.
Critics had fun describing this album when it was released. It is so minimal it'S baffling. David Werner began this way--- "Think Girl Group meets Musak meets Philip Glass. Now think, 'this is unlike anything I've heard'. You're getting close". The group implements an unusually simple keyboard style reminiscent of both roller rink and the lighter layers of Kraftwerk's simpler melodies. It sounds like the same organ your aunt made you listen to during extended holiday receptions.
